Bennett and Game are currently working with one of the UK’s leading Plant, Construction, and Civils Utilities companies, who are actively seeking an established General Manager / Head of Operations to manage and oversee their Plant & Transport operation in their North-London / Hertfordshire location.

Your purpose in this role it to ensure the strategic and operational management of the Plant & Transport function of the group.

Transport & Plant General Manager Position Overview

Transport:

• Reporting to senior management; your role will involve overall management of a Transport team in utilizing and maintaining the fleet to the best of its capabilities.
• You will be responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are routinely serviced with essential maintenance carried out; ensuring that O License conditions are adhere to.
• Enforce the group vehicle policy; ensure that all drivers / operators have the correct / valid license for the fleet being driven.
• Ensure that vehicle tracking systems are regularly monitored with the ability to provide alerts and reports in case of any incidents. Premiums to be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure best value for money.
• Maintain relations with hire companies; regularly negotiate rates / agreements.
• Ensure fleet insurance premiums are monitored on a bi-annual basis; negotiating with various brokers.

Plant:

• Point of contact when investigating fleet accidents; manage claims with any affected parties
• Provide fleet recommendations to senior management – comparing asset life cycle ownership costs against hire costs; considering contract requirements
• Oversee purchasing / leasing of Transport including service agreements
• Monitor fuel consumption including negotiating prices
• Attending regular planning meetings to understand the transport requirements for the forthcoming weeks; relaying information with the Transport department
• Strategic asset purchasing and hiring.
• Management of the mechanical and non-mechanical teams
• To oversee and make sure that all teams have the correct equipment to carry out their jobs i.e. Replacement, Connections, Deferrals
• Responsible for the upkeep and certification of assets as per time schedule
• To Manage all mechanical breakdowns in an expedient manner and to prioritize where necessary
• Recruitment for departmental staff when needed
• Keep track and location of all owed and hired plant and equipment
• Making sure plant is available for all weekend training courses
• Report to Senior Management if additional plant or equipment becomes necessary
• Make sure all teams are audited and equipment on site is tested on a regular basis and all reports acted upon accordingly
• Authorize all costs and hire of any plant and equipment

Transport & Plant General Manager Position Requirements

• You should have previous experience as a Transport Manager for a Civil Engineering / Utility company
• You should be qualified with Transport Manager CPC and should have excellent knowledge of Goods Vehicles Operator license (O License) requirements
• It is essential that you have excellent I.T Skills in Microsoft Office packages
• Previous experience in relevant field of utility (Especially Gas)
• Excellent time management
• Able to work to deadlines
• Must be a team player whilst able to assert authority
• Previous experience of overseeing/running busy workshops
• A good knowledge and understanding of mechanical equipment

Transport & Plant General Manager Position Remuneration

• Salary circa £85k DOE – will be reviewed after 6 month probation period.
• Car allowance of £5.5k
• 3% company pension
• 2x death in service
• 25 days leave
